I’m a Nigerian Mancunian. A singer, poet, producer/composer, playwright, film-maker & club promoter. I know, I sometimes get confused too.
I’m a founder member of Manchester’s Speakeasy People poetry collective, back in 1999. Before that, I sang with cult triphop band, Earthling, performing on on MTV, BBC1, VH1 & Canal 5 as well as in festivals all over Europe.
As a poet and playwright, my work has been commissioned for broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and Radio Manchester. My debut solo show, Bro 9 at Contact Theatre, won Best Fringe Performer & Best Design in the prestigious Manchester Evening News Theatre Awards.
In autumn 2005, I was nominated for the Arts Foundation Performance Poetry award &. In 2010, my semi-autobiographical play “Palm Wine & Stout” toured the UK with Eastern Angles and was featured on Radio 4 Midweek.
My first poetry collection, Praise Songs for Aliens was published by Suitcase Press in October 2009.
